SDPS NEWSLETTER – October 2007

It seems like our numbers are remaining pretty steady at 65 to 70 shooters every month. We had 69 shooters at the October match, and 71 shot if you count second guns (hey, they take up time to shoot the stage). We also had 6 shooter that had never shot with us before and 4 ladies came out to shoot the match.

The next match is Sunday November 4th, it is supposed to be dry, but it’s a little cooler in the morning these days so I am assuming there won’t be so many of you wearing shorts…Hope to see you there!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Classifier Schedule: Mark Leiser still has one opportunity scheduled for you to get classified this year:
1)      Sun Nov 4th after the match

You must be an IDPA member to get classified. It takes about 2 hours and 90 rounds of ammunition to shoot the Classifier Course Of Fire. Please look at your schedules and contact Mark to sign up and get classified. If you have any questions or to get signed up just contact Mark at mleiser@sbcglobal.net

October 7th  SDPS Match Summary

Our Webmaster, Mark Williams was the Match Director for October and Fred Mowery was the Assistant MD, additional stages were designed by Allen Lowe, Alec Libante, Cindy Tucker and John Lustig.

This month Bay 1 was by Allen Lowe and there wasn’t a name for it.  Maybe we should call it “shoot, move, shoot some more, move and shoot through a window, move around the corner, shoot again, then shoot through one more window”?”.

Bay 2 was “This Bites” by Fred Mowery. You were walking your dog and shot a six round string strong hand only while standing, then shot a second 6 round string from a laying position.

Bay 3 was “Dress Rehearsal” by Alec Libante . You fired 6 rounds while retreating, reloaded, addressed 3 targets while moving laterally to a second cover position for another reload, and then the final 6 rounds were shot while advancing on the final target.

Bay 4 was “This Suits You” by Cindy Tucker. She must like cards, because I think this is at least the third “poker related” stage I remember her designing. This time the 4 potential targets were marked with spades, clubs, diamonds and hearts… your drew a card from the table, and that was the “Lucky Target”, the other three got shot!

Bay 5 was “Making a Deposit” by John Lustig where you were accosted while at the ATM and had to deal with the situation.

So, if you are wondering why I spent extra time describing the stages this month, it’s because I didn’t take a camera to the match and there are no pictures to post on the website of the stages…don’t worry, I’ll have one at the November match. Now if we can only get the stuff uploaded onto the website………..

Wayne was the only repeat Class Champion from last month winning CDP with a 85.70 (16). Robert Sharp was ESP Champion with a 99.74 (25). Chad Case was SSP Champion and low score of the match with 72.47 (10). And Kurt Siebert was SSR Champion with a 179.27 (15). Best Ladies score was Cindy Tucker with a 164.03 (60).

As opposed to last month when we had five different shooters have the five best stage scores (and most months there are at least 3 or 4) this month Chad Case completely dominated the match. He had the best score on 4 of the 5 stages, only being 1.13 points slower than Allen Lowe on Stage 4 (actually .63 seconds slower, but a .5 sec penalty for accuracy) and he beat the next best score for the entire match (Allen Lowe coincidently) by over 12 points (seconds).

Stage 1:           17.84 (2)         Chad Case
Stage 2:           12.00 (0)         Chad Case
Stage 3:           20.32 (5)         Chad Case
Stage 4:              5.94 (0)         Allen Lowe
Stage 5:           15.24 (2)         Chad Case

The “Fantasy Shooter’s” score for the match would have been 71.34 (9). Since it is calculated by taking the best scores on every stage and adding it up, and Chad had the best score on 4 of the stages I guess this was pretty much “Chad’s Fantasy Match”, he was only off by 1.13 seconds.  I don’t know what you had for breakfast the day of the match Chad, but maybe you should try that again…great shooting!

The complete results are available at our website at www.sdps-idpa.org and follow the link to October Match Scores.

Stage of the Month
This month I am awarding the stage of the month to “Dress Rehearsal” by Alec Libante in Bay 3. It was fun, tested lots of different skills, there were no glitches and everybody seemed to enjoy it!

Till we shoot again…..
