SDPS NEWSLETTER – September 2007

Attendance may have been down a few people from our average for the September match, but the fun factor was definitely up and we seemed to finish in record time. We had 63 shooters come out to shoot with 10 first timers but only three ladies competed this month...hopefully there with be 5 or 6 again in October.

The October match is Sunday October 7th, hope to see you there!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Classifier Schedule: Mark Leiser still has two opportunities scheduled for those of you who are still waiting to get classified this year:

Sept 2 SDPS Match Summary

This month Ed “IPSC” Vernon was the match director and Dan Brand was the assistant. Ed designed stages 1, 2, and 3 and Dan did stages 4 and 5.

For those of you not familiar with IPSC it is another shooting organization from which IDPA was basically born.  In IDPA the course of fire (COF) is normally designed around a pseudo real life situation and there are multiple rules about weapon concealment, using cover, reloads, and specified shooting locations and positions.  The IPSC COF is more of a “sport” approach that, per their rules, “tests Accuracy, Power and Speed equally” and specifies that “Competitors must be permitted to solve the challenge presented in a freestyle manner, and to shoot targets on an "as and when visible" basis. After the start signal, courses of fire must not require mandatory reloads nor dictate a shooting position, location or stance...” Obviously, the same arrangement of targets could be presented in either organization, but you could be required to shoot them differently under the different rules of the two organizations. Many of our members enjoy shooting both IPSC and IDPA competition....just FYI.

This month Bay 1 was “Caught in the Open” and you had to take all of your 14 shots while moving. Bay 2 was a “Reload Drill” with 7 targets. Bay 3 was “Hiding Home Invasion Robbers”. Bay 4 was “Flying Your Kit”, and Bay 5 was “ATM Robbery”.

We didn't have any revolver shooters this month, so there were three Class Champions with only Gayl Morse repeating from last month winning ESP with a 65.52 (9). Wayne Johnson was back on top in CDP with a 57.00 (15) after a short absence, and Allen Lowe edged out Chad  this month winning SSP with a 57.51 (22).

The best stage scores were also spread over 5 different shooters this month:

Stage 1:           10.10 (1)         Jim Griffiths
Stage 2:           12.56 (1)         Allen Lowe
Stage 3:           15.09 (4)         Scott Yu
Stage 4:              5.36 (0)         Wayne Johnson
Stage 5:              5.16 (0)         Chad Case

The “Fantasy Shooter’s” score for the match would have been 48.27 (6) so nobody even came close...guess we all need to keep practicing!

The complete results are available at our website at www.sdps-idpa.org and follow the link to September Match Scores.

Stage of the Month
This month I am awarding the stage of the month to Ed's bay 1 COF “Caught in The Open”, it was kind of fun to have a bunch of different options of how to shoot the stage and to have to move and think on your feet “IPSC style”.

Till we shoot again…..
