Do you guys like this stuff or what? The July 4th will be our annual Classifier Match. 3 targets, 90 rounds from 7, 10, 15 and 20 yards. At the end you will have an “official” IDPA Classification rating. It is going to be 95 plus, but we should be done by 1:30 so don’t forget your hat, sunscreen, at least 100 rounds, and lots of water! Hope to see you there.

SDPS Membership “Requirements” Just a friendly reminder... To be a member of SDPS, you need to also be a member of IDPA national ($40 a year, but $35 if you join through SDPS) and also a member of NRA (isn’t everybody?). Membership in FSC is optional, but it saves you money and gives you other benefits when you want to come out and practice on non-SDPS match days.
June Match Summary Fred Mowery MD and Dan Minter AMD were the leaders for the June Match. They, along with their team, put together a nice variety of challenging scenarios that everyone had lots of fun shooting. We had 107 shooters that started the day, but a few less at the end. We had 16 shooters who had never shot with SDPS before, 8 Ladies, and 5 Juniors.
Stage 1 was “Alley Egress”, by Jim Bass. You started facing uprange, head down as if looking at your PDA, at the signal you turned, drew, and walked down the alley addressing the targets as they came into view. (14R)
Stage 2 was “Bad Day at the Office” by Danny Minter, based on a real incident he was involved in in 1986. You started standing at the door with a briefcase in your weak hand not knowing there were bad guys waiting inside. At the signal you opened the door and engaged T1 with 2 shots from retention, then retreated to the dumpster for cover and set down the valuable briefcase, engaged the Popper, which activated a pop-up over the wall for 2 head shots, then engaged the “running suspect” with 2 rounds each to T3 – T6. (13R)
Stage 3 was “Garbage Day” by Jeff Treble. Starting at P1 you drew and engaged T1 with 3 rounds, then retreated and moved along the wall to P2. Next you engaged T2 through the window with 3 rounds (if you were not DQ’d first). Then you engaged a popper down the hallway, which triggered a swingout target, 3 rounds, then moved to P3 and engaged the final threat with 3 rounds without hitting the hostage. (13R)
Stage 4 was “Pot Farm” by Carl Phelps. You surprised some growers and they were not happy! At the buzzer engage T1 with three rounds, then their dogs, S1 and S2, which trigger the “runner” target which you had about 2 seconds to engage before it disappeared on the other side of the bay with 3 rounds. (8R)
Stage 5 was “7–11 Robbery” by Eric Dean. You were facing the counter in surrender position. At the signal, turn, draw and engage T1 with 2 rounds from retention, then retreat to P2 and engage T2, T3, T4 from cover. Move to P3 and engage T5 with 2 rounds. (10R)
Stage 6 was “Another Convenience Store Episode” by Alec Libante. Standing at P1 with your hands flat on the counter, draw and engage T1 with 3 rounds while backing to P2. Engage the remaining 3 targets with 3 rounds each as they become visible while moving to the exit door. (12R) This is a picture of the dog that must have eaten the photo of stage 6, her name is Carrera … bad dog! (Actually, the battery went dead in my camera … she’s a good dog!)
The Division winners for the March Match were CDP: John Mercurio with a 93.99 (23); ESP was Joshua Beltram with a 94.75 (16); SSP and best score for the match was Chad Case with 89.47 (12) ESR was Steve McCormick with a 113.73 (30); SSR was Gary Morgan with a 116.86 (19). Top Lady was Cindy Tucker with 134.15 (29) and top Junior was Mark Combs with a 119.73 (38).
This month the best stage scores were: Stage 1: 11.90 (0) Robert Sharp Stage 2: 14.82 (2) Allen Lowe Stage 3: 14.65 (0) John Mercurio Stage 4: 11.16 (1) Allen Lowe Stage 5 17.46 (2) Wayne Johnson Stage 6 11.44 (0) Chad Case
