Current Newsletter:SDPS NEWSLETTER – Jan 2010 Another decade down, wow how time flies! We are having one of the wettest winters I can remember in a long time. If it is dry for a couple of days before the match the bays are usually OK, but if we get too much rain in a short period or don’t get a “break” the bays are too muddy and slippery to be safe. Make sure to check the website at www.sdps-idpa.org after 6 PM on Saturday for the next couple months to make sure the match is a “GO”…. Once we make it through April we are usually good until November!
ANNOUNCEMENTS: Well, either I wasn’t paying attention, or there were not very many announcements at the January match. So, here are a couple of “repeats” from the recent past.
Penmanship and Leaving Early PLEASE print both your first and late names legibly on your score sheets; if we can’t read them you might get a “no score” for that stage. Also, if you are unable to finish a match PLEASE come to the score shack and let us know, or at least write “DNF” on your remaining score sheets and turn them in with the last stage you shoot. Otherwise, we are looking for “missing” score sheets trying to make sure all the scores are in the computer so the stages can be torn down at the end of the match.
Match Etiquette / Match Through-put time If you are the shooter “On Deck”, do not tape and brass. Go to the starting position and be ready to “Load and Make Ready” as soon as the SO gets back from scoring the previous shooter. If you are “In the Hole”, make sure you have your cover garment and the proper number of rounds in your magazines, so you are ready to be “On Deck” next. The single factor that slows down our matches the most is taking “extra time” between shooters, not the time it actually takes to shoot the stage.
YouTube Videos OK, Scott Yu was nice enough to set up a YouTube account a few months ago and I finally found time to learn how to use it. There are actually quite a few videos of our matches already on YouTube, but if you go to www.youtube.com you will find a video of every stage being shot.
Jan 3rd Match Summary Ed “Lone Wolf” Vernon was the MD and designed all the stages for the January match. They were all 12 rounds with similar reset times and trigger time, so there was very little backup. We put 100 shooters through the match in “record time”.
Stage 1 was “Ed’s Very Own Spread fire Reloading Drill”. Starting from cover behind the barrel, engage each target with one round, reload, re-engage with one round, reload, re-engage with one round. (12R)
Stage 2 was “Posting the Mail”. Starting at the mailbox, engage all 4 targets in tactical order with 2 rounds each, then re-engage with one headshot each. (12R)
Stage 3 was “Get Away”. Starting in front of T1, engage with 2 rounds while retreating, engage T2 & T3 with 2 rounds while moving, and T4 – T6 from cover with 2 rounds each. (12R)
Stage 4 was “All at Once”. From the starting position, engage T1 – T3 while retreating, then engage T4- T6 in Tactical sequence from cover. (12R)
Stage 5 was “Wednesday at 3 O’clock”” Starting seated, stand, draw and engage T1 – T3 while moving to cover, engage T 4 - T6 from the right side of barricade, all with two round. (12R)
Stage 6 was “Hiding in the Bushes”. You engaged T1 & T2 with 2 rounds while retreating, T3 & T4 behind the screen and hostage while moving, and T5 & T6 from behind cover, all with two rounds each. (12R)
The Division winners this month were CDP: Wayne Johnson with a 73.52 (8); ESP was Arnold Peterson with a 68.55 (13); SSP was Chad Case with 64.23 (6) and the best score for the match (back to normal); ESR was Andy Lysett with a 109.72 (17); SSR was Gary Morgan with a 131.84 (4). Top ladies score was Alisa Arkebauer with a 142.72 (26), and top Junior was Chris Russell with a nice 151.85 (23).
This month the best stage scores were: Stage 1: 12.88 (1) Wayne Johnson Stage 2: 9.61 (0) Chad Case Stage 3: 7.46 (0) Arnold Peterson Stage 4: 9.97 (2) Chad Case Stage 5 10.36 (1) Arnold Peterson Stage 6 9.72 (0) Chad Case
Adding those up, we would get a Fantasy Shooter match score of 60.00 (4) so. Total shots scored were 72.
Although we had 100 shooters this month, compared to 80 last month, and we finished almost 2 hours sooner. The round counts were fairly close 72 vs. 84, but last month the longest stage took 3 time longer to shoot than the shortest stage (32 sec to 11 seconds), and this month the stage times were 10 to 12 seconds each. All targets were between 2 and 7 yards, you had to move, shoot, use cover properly, and think about sequence and priority, but it was all pretty straight forward IDPA …..thanks for a nice match Ed.
The complete results are available at our website at www.sdps-idpa.org and follow the link to Jan 2010 Match Scores.
Till we shoot again….. Bob Peake SDPS Newsletter Editor
